AS9609 BBIX-CDN BBIX, Inc.

AS9609 (BBIX-CDN) is held by BBIX, Inc., a wholly owned SoftBank subsidiary and one of Asia's leading internet-exchange operators. BBIX runs peering fabrics across Tokyo, Osaka, Okinawa, Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok, and has extended a node to the United States.

What it's used for

Read the network, not the name. Whatever the operator does at scale, this AS is tiny: a single announced IPv4 prefix, 61.245.110.0/24, for 256 addresses, plus one IPv6 /48, 2403:c780:a991::/48, and 6 observed BGP neighbours. That is not an exchange fabric. IXP peering LANs are generally not carried in the global table at all, and a network with 256 routed addresses is not a content-delivery platform of any consequence either. What the shape does fit is a small service or infrastructure AS: a handful of hosts that BBIX needs to originate from its own ASN, announced to a small set of directly connected networks. The -CDN suffix on the handle is a label, not evidence of function, and the routing table does not corroborate a content-delivery role at present.

• Do not treat this AS as "BBIX the internet exchange". The exchange business is the company's product; this AS number is a small piece of its own address estate.
• The single /24 sits in 61.245.0.0, legacy APNIC space, consistent with an allocation made long before the current SoftBank-era BBIX business took its present shape.
• Six neighbours on 256 addresses is a closed, purposeful network. There is no downstream customer base here.
