AS9483 DPL-AS-AP Flatnet Networks

AS9483 is held by Flatnet Networks, a small New Zealand network registered to a Wellington postal address. Beyond the registry record there is very little public trace of the organisation, so this card describes what the routing shows rather than asserting a business it may or may not be in.

What it's used for

The AS originates a single IPv4 prefix, 202.50.109.0/24 — 256 addresses — and no IPv6. That is the smallest footprint an AS can meaningfully have: one legacy /24 out of New Zealand's 202.50/16 space, RPKI-valid, and nothing else.

One observed BGP neighbour, and it is an interesting one: the upstream is REANNZ, New Zealand's national research and education network. The AS is also seen at WIX, the Wellington Internet Exchange. A single /24 taking transit from the national REN and appearing at the Wellington exchange is not the shape of a commercial ISP or a hosting provider; it is the shape of a small organisation that wants its own provider-independent block and peers where it can. Research-and-education transit in particular is not something a general commercial network would normally be able to buy.

Notable

• The registry handle is inconsistent across databases — RIPEstat reports DPL-AS-AP while some sources show FLATNET-AS-NZ, which suggests the object was renamed at some point and the older acronym still lingers in mirrors. Neither handle should be read as evidence about the operator.
• With one /24 and one upstream, no confident statement about the network's purpose is supportable from routing alone.
