AS9443 (VOCUS-RETAIL-AU) is held by Vocus, the Australian telecommunications group, and carries its retail consumer and small-business customers — the Dodo, iPrimus and Commander brands. It is not Vocus's wholesale backbone: it is the eyeball network hanging off it.

What it's used for

This is one of the larger Australian access networks. The AS originates 47 IPv4 prefixes totalling 1,153,024 addresses, plus 3 IPv6 /32s (2403:4800::/32, 2403:fc00::/32, 2403:9e00::/32). The IPv4 inventory is dominated by whole /16s — 139.216, 139.218, 58.179, 111.220, 122.151, 125.168, 211.26, 112.141, 122.148, 210.50, 211.27, 58.178, 122.150, 116.240 — the large subscriber aggregates a broadband provider needs to number hundreds of thousands of home connections.

The reverse DNS is the clincher and reads like a brand inventory: sta.dodo.net.au and dyn.dodo.net.au, dsl.syd.iprimus.net.au and dsl.mel.iprimus.net.au, sta.commander.net.au, sta.wbroadband.net.au, sta.onestream.net.au, and Vocus's own ip.vocus.network. Static (sta) and dynamic (dyn) subscriber pools, city-tagged DSL names, several retail brands sharing one pool of space. And against that million-plus addresses, only 1 observed BGP neighbour — the retail AS reaches the internet through its parent group's backbone rather than peering in its own right. Big address count, no peering fabric: an eyeball network, not a carrier.

Notable

• Dodo, iPrimus and Commander are all Vocus retail brands; their subscriber space is numbered out of this single AS.
• Vocus is privately held (Macquarie Asset Management and Aware Super) and in 2025 completed the purchase of TPG's fibre network, making the group a major Australian infrastructure owner.
• The one-neighbour figure is a role signal, not a weakness: the peering happens on Vocus's backbone AS, which sits in front of this one.
