AS9293 HKNET-VIPNET NTT Com Asia Limited

AS9293 (HKNet-vIPNet) is held by NTT Com Asia Limited, the Hong Kong arm of NTT Communications. The HKNet in the handle is the network's original identity: HKNet was a Hong Kong ISP that NTT Communications bought into from 1999 and took to full ownership by the end of 2001. NTT Com Asia now serves as NTT Communications' East Asia regional base, and this AS is the routing identity that HKNet's network became.

What it's used for

The footprint is substantial: roughly 132 IPv4 prefixes covering about 208,128 addresses, plus one IPv6 /32. The anchor blocks are large — a 110.79.0.0/16, three /17s (218.213.0.0/17, 203.169.128.0/17, 202.67.128.0/17) and a 202.71.192.0/18 — with the rest deaggregated down to /24s. About 31 BGP neighbours are observed, which is a peering edge typical of an established regional provider rather than a wholesale backbone. The reverse DNS shows the network doing two jobs at once. Some sampled addresses carry access-concentrator style PTRs under hknet.com (names like vp192005.kln.uac68.hknet.com, with a Kowloon site code), the fingerprint of a subscriber access network. Another lands on inetgw3.esquel.com — the internet gateway of a Hong Kong manufacturing group, i.e. a corporate customer's edge sitting directly in this space.

• Card the specific network: NTT's global backbone is a different AS entirely. This is the Hong Kong access and enterprise network, inherited from HKNet.
• The vIPNet suffix on the handle points at HKNet's IP-VPN service line, consistent with the enterprise customer gateways visible in the space.
