AS9275 KASI-AS-KR Korea Astronomy Observatory

AS9275 (KASI-AS-KR) is held by the Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute, South Korea's government-funded national research institute for astronomy and space science, headquartered in the Daedeok Science Town in Daejeon. The registry name "Korea Astronomy Observatory" reflects the institute's earlier title; the organisation behind it is KASI.

What it's used for

This is a small research-institute network and it looks like one. AS9275 announces seven IPv4 prefixes, every one of them a /24, totalling just 1,792 addresses, with no IPv6 announced and only two observed BGP neighbours. Two upstreams and under 2,000 addresses puts this firmly in end-site territory: there is no transit role, no hosting business and no eyeball base here. What is interesting is the spread of those seven /24s — they come from several unrelated blocks (210.110.233.0/24 and 210.110.234.0/24, 203.253.237.0/24, 210.98.27.0/24, 210.219.33.0/24, and two newer APNIC /24s at 103.8.230.0 and 103.43.64.0). A handful of individually-routed /24s rather than one contiguous block is what accumulates when an institute has picked up address space at different times for different facilities.

• KASI's work spans optical, radio and space astronomy, and it participates in large international projects; as of 2024 it sits under the Korea AeroSpace Administration.
• The network exists to serve the institute's staff, computing and instrument sites, so traffic from it should be read as scientific and institutional rather than commercial.
