AS9162 TSTU

AS9162 (TSTU) is registered to the State Educational Institution of Higher Vocational Education "Tambov State Technical University", a public technical university in Tambov, in the Central Chernozem region of Russia. It is the campus network of a single institution, not a service provider.

What it's used for

The routing evidence is exactly the shape of a university campus network. RIS sees a single IPv4 prefix, 82.179.144.0/20 (4,096 addresses), plus one IPv6 /48 (2001:b08:4::/48), and just one observed BGP neighbour. A single upstream means this AS exists to carry the university's own traffic, not to sell transit or peer widely: the institution holds an ASN mainly so its address space is portable across whichever national research or commercial upstream it buys from.

Reverse DNS on the space is delegated to the university's own domain. Sampled PTRs land on abonent.tstu.ru and generic per-host names of the form 82-179-152-5.nnn.tstu.ru. The abonent ("subscriber") naming is the giveaway that the /20 isn't purely for servers: it also numbers end users, the usual mix of staff desktops, lab machines, halls of residence and campus wireless that sits behind a Russian university's allocation. 4,096 addresses is a comfortable but not lavish allocation for an institution of TSTU's size.
