AWS-GOVCLOUD is the Amazon Web Services autonomous system serving AWS GovCloud, the isolated AWS regions built for US government workloads and regulated data.

What it's used for

• Public-cloud compute, storage and networking in the us-gov-west-1 and us-gov-east-1 regions. Reverse DNS across the announced space resolves to ec2-IP-ADDR.us-gov-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com and the matching us-gov-east-1 zone, plus GovCloud Route 53 nameservers (awsdns-us-gov domains).
• It announces a large, scattered inventory (over a hundred IPv4 prefixes and a similar number of IPv6 prefixes) drawn from many different Amazon blocks.

Notable

• Despite the name, this is cloud hosting infrastructure operated by Amazon, not a government-run network. The customers are US federal, state and local agencies and their contractors, but the addresses belong to AWS.
• The RIR object is held under an Amazon corporate entity rather than a US government body, and the space should be treated as commercial cloud, not agency, address space.

• GovCloud regions are operationally partitioned from commercial AWS, yet they share the same AS number here, so a lookup on this ASN mixes both the us-gov-east-1 and us-gov-west-1 footprints.
