AS8916 PORTFAST

PORTFAST is Portfast Ltd, a small British hosting and network provider

registered in Sheffield. It sells KVM virtual machines, colocation and IP transit,

and runs its own routing and address space.

What it's used for

• Virtual-machine hosting (portfast.net KVM VPS with native IPv6), colocation and transit for a modest customer base.
• About 6,600 IPv4 addresses across a 188.246.192.0/20 allocation and two provider-independent blocks, plus an IPv6 /29 and a /48. Three upstream neighbours.

Notable

• The rDNS that exists is Portfast's own backbone — router interfaces named gi0-0-1.rt0.SITE.portfast.net and hosts named after Greek letters (eth0.eta.portfast.net). Customer VM space is largely undelegated, which is normal for a VPS provider.
• Every allocation is self-registered under Portfast's own maintainer, and the one block registered to a third party (130.193.30.0/24, Roebuck Group Ltd) is a straightforward customer route rather than brokered space.

Interesting

• The AS number is early-1990s vintage but RIPE records the current holder's registration in 2009, and its oldest allocation dates from 2011. This is a reissued number, not an early-internet allocation — the company simply inherited a low one.
