AS8803 MIGROS

MIGROS is the corporate network of the Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund, the federation of cooperatives behind Migros, Switzerland's largest retailer and one of its largest employers. This is a retailer's enterprise AS, not a service provider.

What it's used for

Migros announces about 330,000 IPv4 addresses across twelve prefixes and, notably, no IPv6 at all. The bulk sits in five legacy /16 blocks — 143.180.0.0/16, 146.67.0.0/16, 159.179.0.0/16, 163.161.0.0/16 and 164.14.0.0/16 — supplemented by a handful of European /22–/24 assignments.

The one PTR returned in the sample, ip-193-8-177-100.migros.net, is first-party: the space carries Migros' own systems. With ten observed BGP neighbours and no downstream networks, the routing behaviour is that of a large enterprise buying transit, not selling it.

What it carries

Retail at Migros' scale means a lot of network: point-of-sale across hundreds of stores, distribution and logistics, plus the group's banking, travel, fitness and manufacturing arms. That variety, rather than any subscriber base, explains the large address holding.

Notable

• Five separate legacy /16s is a striking amount of address space for a grocery cooperative. It reflects an era when large enterprises could request generous classful allocations, and Migros simply never gave them back.
• The complete absence of announced IPv6 is unusual for a network of this size in a country with otherwise strong IPv6 deployment.
