AS8753 MEDIATELESET

Mediateleset Ltd. (MEDIATELESET) — a very small Russian internet provider

registered in Donetsk, a town in Rostov oblast (not the Ukrainian city of the

same name), announcing a single /23 of roughly 500 addresses.

What it's used for

• Local subscriber access. The rDNS is unambiguous: poolN.NNN.mediatele.net and natN.NNN.mediatele.net cover almost the whole block, with a single mail.mediatele.net for the operator's own mail host.
• The nat naming means subscribers sit behind carrier-grade NAT, so far more households share this network than the 512 public addresses suggest.

Notable

• This is eyeball space: shared, NATed, dynamically assigned home-user addresses. Nothing in the inventory looks like servers or hosting.
• Tiny even by regional-ISP standards — three overlapping announcements of one /23, two BGP neighbours, no IPv6. The address space is registered directly to the company under its own MEDIATELESET-MNT maintainer, so despite the small size this is a real operator's own space rather than leased or brokered blocks.

Interesting

• The name collision is worth flagging for anyone geolocating this AS: the registrant's town is Donetsk in Russia's Rostov region, a coal-mining town of around 45,000 people. Matching on the city name alone would place these addresses in Ukraine's Donetsk, several hundred kilometres away and across a border.
