AS8735 ATOS-DE-NUREMBERG

Atos Information Technology GmbH (ATOS-DE-NUREMBERG) — the German IT-services

arm of Atos, formerly Siemens IT Solutions and Services, which Atos acquired

from Siemens in 2011. Around 7,400 IPv4 addresses across eleven legacy 194.x

blocks, routed out of Nuremberg.

What it's used for

• Managed IT outsourcing: Atos runs applications and infrastructure for client companies out of its own data centres, and the addresses go with the workloads.
• The rDNS is the evidence. The named hosts do not belong to Atos at all — they carry the domains of the customers whose systems sit there, from a German pay-TV operator's mail gateway to an asset manager's servers. Most of the space has no delegation, and the AS has only a couple of BGP neighbours.

Notable

• Customer hostnames in a hosting provider's space are not a broker signal. The prefixes are Atos's own legacy allocations, held under its own registry objects; the third-party names are simply outsourced workloads. It is the registration, not the hostname, that separates this from an address broker.
• Consequently these addresses geolocate to Atos's German facilities, not to the companies named in the reverse DNS. Anything reading the hostname as the location will place a pay-TV network and an investment firm inside a data centre they merely rent capacity in.
