AS8695 KS-IX-AS Kherson Traffic Exchange

KS-IX (KS-IX-AS Kherson Traffic Exchange) is the internet exchange point for

Kherson, in southern Ukraine. The AS is registered to Private Enterprise "Law

Firm Status", the legal entity that operates the exchange.

What it's used for

• Running an IXP: a shared peering fabric where Ukrainian regional ISPs and content networks exchange traffic locally instead of hauling it via Kyiv or abroad. The exchange runs an open peering policy and publishes a looking glass.
• The AS itself announces no IPv4 at all and a single IPv6 prefix, 2001:7f8:80::/48 — drawn from 2001:7f8::/32, the RIPE NCC block reserved for IXP peering LANs. That one prefix is the exchange's own fabric and route-server addressing, not customer space.

Notable

• Exchange-point infrastructure has no honest classification as hosting, transit or eyeball space, so this AS is deliberately left unclassified. The peering LAN is a layer-2 meeting room; the traffic on it belongs to the member networks, each with its own AS.
• A single BGP neighbour and zero announced IPv4 is exactly the profile expected: an IXP does not need to route to be useful.
• Kherson has been a front-line and occupied city since 2022, which makes the continued operation of a local exchange there notable in itself.
