AS8678 ANKARA-NET

ANKARA-NET is held by Ankara Üniversitesi Rektörlüğü — the rectorate of Ankara University, Turkey's first university of the republican era, founded in 1946 in the capital.

What it's used for

The AS carries the university's campus network: roughly 22,000 IPv4 addresses across 14 prefixes, spread over faculties, research institutes, hospitals and student housing on the Tandoğan, Cebeci, Beşevler, Dışkapı and Gölbaşı campuses. No PTRs were returned on the addresses sampled, so the internal naming could not be examined; the inventory shape (a mix of legacy 193.255.x and 194.27.x academic blocks alongside newer 5.23.x, 46.182.x, 80.251.x and 92.61.x allocations) is typical of a large Turkish university that has grown its assignment over three decades.

Notable

• A single observed BGP neighbour: the university is single-homed, which in Turkey means transit from ULAKBIM/ULAKNET, the national academic backbone that connects essentially every Turkish state university.
• The 194.27.24.0/22 and 193.255.x blocks are classic ULAKNET-era academic space, first seen in the routing table in 2001.

Interesting

Ankara University runs one of Turkey's largest university hospital groups (Ibn-i Sina, Cebeci), so a meaningful share of this address space is clinical and administrative IT rather than research or student networking — a common pattern for European and Middle Eastern universities with attached teaching hospitals.
