MAXnet Systems Ltd. (MAXNET) — a regional Russian internet provider

headquartered in Obninsk, Kaluga Oblast, serving the Obninsk and Kaluga areas.

What it's used for

• Consumer and small-business broadband in its two home cities. The rDNS splits cleanly by town and by role: carrier-grade-NAT subscriber pools named NNN.NAT-pool.Kaluga.MAXnet.ru and NAT-pool.Obninsk.MAXnet.ru, plus static hosts under the regional zones Kaluga.net and Obninsk.ru.
• Those static names are a mix of individual subscribers (surname-style hosts) and local businesses — car dealers, service firms, a Wi-Fi hotspot operator — which is exactly what a small-city ISP's address space looks like.

Notable

• The large NAT-pool blocks are the decisive signal. An operator only builds CGN pools when it has more household subscribers than IPv4 addresses; a business-only or transit network has no reason to.
• Roughly 22,000 addresses across about 20 prefixes, all RIPE, all self- registered to MAXnet — a coherent regional inventory, not an assembled one.

Interesting

• The two brand zones outlive their origins: Kaluga.net and Obninsk.ru read like the names of separate local ISPs, and the network still labels its address space by them long after they were folded into MAXnet.
