ITC-AS — ITC (Institutul pentru Tehnică de Calcul) S.A., a Bucharest IT

solutions integrator that traces back to a 1967 computing-technology research

institute and is today a commercial company. Its network arm, ITCNet, has run

since 1997.

What it's used for

• A small hosting and business-connectivity network: about 1,500 IPv4 addresses in six /24s, two BGP neighbours, no IPv6.
• rDNS is dominated by ITC's own hosted services under itc.ro and itcnet.ro: authoritative DNS (dns1.itc.ro), mail relays, a Zimbra groupware cluster (zimbra.itcnet.ro, outgoing-zimbra1.itcnet.ro), shared web hosting (virtualweb.itcnet.ro), a firewall gateway (utm-gw.itcnet.ro) and a cloud platform (cloudplus.ro).
• Alongside those sit customer hosts on their own domains — software vendors and small Romanian businesses with their mail and DNS parked here.

Notable

• Despite the institute in its legal name, this is not an academic or research network. ITC is a for-profit systems integrator, and the address space carries commercial hosting and managed mail, not a campus. A name-only read would file it as education and be wrong.
• There is no subscriber-pool naming at all: no dynamic, DSL or PPPoE labels. Every host is a named server or a business assignment.

Interesting

• The institute is a survivor of Romania's socialist-era computing programme, which built domestic mainframes and minicomputers. It reinvented itself as an ISP in the 1990s and then as an integrator, and the AS number is a relic of the first of those turns.
