AS8586 OBSL-AS TalkTalk - Business division

OBSL-AS is the TalkTalk Business network, held by TalkTalk Communications

Limited. OBSL stands for Opal Business Solutions, the B2B arm TalkTalk acquired

with Opal Telecom, and the name still runs through the reverse DNS.

What it's used for

• Business connectivity in the UK: DSL, leased lines and routed customer subnets. Sampled reverse DNS lands on dsl.opal-solutions.com and routed.opal-solutions.com hostnames, with backbone hops under opalback.opal-solutions.com.
• Static assignments for business customers, some of which carry the customer's own naming (a sampled address resolves to fw.bristan.com, a UK bathroom-fittings manufacturer's firewall) or a reseller's (swiftinter.net static ranges).
• Around 108,000 IPv4 addresses across 16 prefixes.

Notable

• This is not TalkTalk's consumer broadband network. The residential eyeball space sits on other TalkTalk autonomous systems; the dsl label here is the access technology sold to businesses, not a home-subscriber pool.
• One observed neighbour: the AS sits behind TalkTalk's own backbone rather than buying transit independently.

Interesting

• Opal Telecom was TalkTalk's wholesale/business carrier before the brands merged, and its rDNS zone has outlived the company name by well over a decade.
