AS8582 GTT-AS

GTT-AS is a small Dutch autonomous system of GTT Communications, the

international carrier. GTT's main backbone is a different, much larger AS; this one

is a legacy registration inherited through GTT's acquisitions in the Netherlands.

What it's used for

• Two /22s, about 2,000 IPv4 addresses, from 128.127.152.0/21. The RIPE netname on that space is NL-IRTCLOUD-20111017 — Interoute cloud/virtual-data-centre addressing, from the pan-European carrier GTT acquired in 2018.
• Eight observed neighbours and no downstream networks, so it functions as a service-hosting AS rather than as transit, despite the parent's carrier business.

Notable

• No PTRs came back on the addresses sampled inside the announced prefixes. That is not proof the reverse zones are undelegated, but it means rDNS offers no further evidence about what runs there.
• The AS was first seen originating 212.104.192.0/18 back in 2000, a block it no longer announces. The number has been passed along through a chain of European carrier mergers.

Interesting

• The classification here follows the address space, not the holder. GTT is a transit carrier, but this particular AS carries a small pocket of hosted cloud addressing — a good example of why a subsidiary's AS should not inherit its parent's kind.
