AS8562 LICPLUS-AS

LICPLUS-AS is a secondary autonomous system of A1 Telekom Austria AG, Austria's

incumbent operator. It carries a slice of A1's fixed broadband access platform, not

the operator's main network.

What it's used for

• Fixed internet access delivered over A1's highway platform: every sampled address resolves under highway.a1.net, split between static.highway.a1.net (fixed-IP assignments) and lns.highway.a1.net (addresses handed out by L2TP access concentrators).
• About 75,000 IPv4 addresses across nine prefixes, plus one IPv6 prefix, all registered to A1 Telekom Austria itself.

Notable

• The naming is uniformly static. rather than the dynamic./dyn. pools that mark mass-market consumer broadband, which points at fixed-IP access — the product a telco sells to businesses and to customers who pay for a static address. A1's bulk consumer eyeball space lives on other, much larger autonomous systems.
• Three observed neighbours, no downstreams: this AS buys nothing on the open market and sells no transit. It is an access AS hanging off A1's own backbone.

Interesting

• highway was Telekom Austria's original broadband brand, and the reverse-DNS zone has outlasted the brand by many years. An a1.net hostname with highway in it is a fixed-line customer address, not a mobile one.
