AS8481 TRANSNET

TRANSNET is a secondary AS held by SpaceNet AG, a Munich IT services provider

that runs its own high-security data centres and supplies managed IT, cloud and

security services to German businesses. SpaceNet's main network is

[AS5539](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS5539).

What it's used for

• Announcing a single /22 alongside SpaceNet's primary network; the addresses serve the company's hosting and managed-service customers.
• Historically, the RIPE object records that this AS was loaned to the Debian Anycast Project, which used it to announce anycast service prefixes.

Notable

• A small, single-prefix AS (about 1,000 addresses) with one BGP neighbour, not an independent operator. Card the parent, SpaceNet, rather than treating this as a network in its own right.
• Almost no reverse DNS is published in the block, so the prefix says little about what runs on it.

Interesting

• The TRANSNET name has no connection to any company called Transnet. It is a registry handle SpaceNet has carried for decades, and the RIPE object's created: field is the 1970-01-01 placeholder used for records that predate the database — a genuine marker of age, unlike most RIPE creation dates.
