AS8318 CMX-AS

CMX-AS is CEMEX España S.A., the Spanish arm of Cemex, the Mexican building-

materials and cement multinational. It is a corporate enterprise network, not a

service provider.

What it's used for

• Internet edge for Cemex's Spanish operations. The AS announces four contiguous /24s out of 93.190.152.0/22, a block registered in RIPE directly to CEMEX ESPANA S.A.
• Typical of a multihomed corporate network: a small, tidy, wholly-owned range used for the company's own perimeter, remote access and published services. There is no customer or subscriber addressing of any kind.

Notable

• Enterprise address space. An IP in these prefixes belongs to Cemex's own infrastructure. It should not be geolocated to a datacentre customer or read as hosting, and there is no consumer traffic here.
• Reverse DNS is almost entirely absent, which is normal for a corporate edge block that exists to be reached at a few published addresses rather than to be enumerated.
• The prefixes and the AS are registered to the Spanish subsidiary, not to Cemex's Mexican parent, so the network's centre of gravity is Spain.

Interesting

• Cement is not an obvious reason to run BGP, but large industrial groups with many plants and a legacy of private WAN links frequently ended up with their own AS and provider-independent space. This is one of them.
