AS8300 TEST-AS-MAIN

Test-AS-Main is an auxiliary Autonomous System of Swisscom, the Swiss

incumbent telecom operator. It is not a product or a customer-facing network: as

the name says, it is a test AS, registered to Swisscom and maintained under the

old CH-UNISOURCE-MNT object inherited from the Unisource era.

What it's used for

• Announcing a small set of Swisscom backbone infrastructure prefixes. Every address sampled inside them resolves into bb.ip-plus.net, Swisscom's IP-Plus backbone: router interface names of the form SITE-NNN-INTERFACE.bb.ip-plus.net covering link and loopback addressing rather than anything a customer uses.
• It sits behind Swisscom's main [AS3303](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS3303) and a second European upstream, and has no downstream customers of its own.

Notable

• Infrastructure only. There is no subscriber, hosting or business-access space on this AS. Swisscom's consumer and enterprise networks are numbered elsewhere, and inheriting the incumbent's kind onto this AS number would be wrong: it belongs in no ordinary category.
• Because the addresses are router interfaces, they carry backbone traffic but do not originate end-user activity. Geolocating or attributing behaviour to them as if they were subscriber addresses is a mistake.
• The 193.5.x and 194.209.x ranges it announces are old Swiss classful-era blocks, consistent with a low AS number in a national incumbent's estate.
