AS8272 NETSCALIBUR-UK

NETSCALIBUR-UK is registered to Claranet Limited, the London-based managed

hosting and network services group. The handle is a fossil: Netscalibur was a

UK provider absorbed into Claranet, and the AS number outlived the brand.

What it's used for

• Almost nothing. The AS announces a single /24, 193.221.118.0/24, and takes transit from exactly one upstream, Claranet's main AS8426. It has no downstreams.
• That /24 is not Claranet's own space: it is provider-independent space registered to a separate CONVERGENCE organisation at Telehouse London. Every address in it answers to the same wildcard reverse name, foo.convergence.cx.

Notable

• Left unclassified on purpose. A vestigial AS whose entire inventory is one third-party PI /24 with wildcard rDNS has no honest kind. It is not Claranet's hosting network, it carries no customers, and labelling it with Claranet's kind would put Claranet's shape onto addresses that are not Claranet's.
• Do not geolocate or attribute this /24 to Claranet's business. The holder of the AS and the holder of the addresses are different organisations.
• Claranet's real network activity lives on its other autonomous systems, of which this is not one.
