AS8194 VITA

VITA is the Autonomous System of Latvia's state data network. It is

registered to VAS "Latvijas Valsts radio un televīzijas centrs" (LVRTC), the

state-owned radio and television centre, which absorbed the *Valsts informācijas

tīkla aģentūra* (VITA — the State Information Network Agency) when the two

government companies were merged around 2010.

What it's used for

• Connectivity for Latvian state institutions: ministries, agencies and public administration. Reverse DNS in the space resolves under vita.gov.lv (e.g. ep1.vita.gov.lv), which is the plainest possible evidence of what it carries.
• LVRTC's own electronic-communications services, run over the same network.

Notable

• Classify this by use, not by holder. The holder is nominally a broadcasting company, but the AS is a government network, not a broadcaster's or an ISP's.
• The handle outlived its organisation: VITA the agency no longer exists, but its name persists in both the AS name and the reverse DNS.

Interesting

• VITA traces back to a 1992 government communications centre set up to serve Latvia's senior officials in the years right after independence, later broadened into the national state data-transmission network.
