university in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and the largest in Atlantic Canada.

• The rDNS inside 129.173.0.0/16 is unambiguously institutional — names like gw81ad0020.backbone.dal.ca, campus VPN concentrators and lab/application hosts on dal.ca subdomains. No subscriber pools.

• This is an institutional network. An address here is a university-managed host or a client on the campus network, not a consumer line and not a commercial server.
• It carries two legacy /16s (129.173.0.0/16 and 134.190.0.0/16, the latter from the former Technical University of Nova Scotia, which merged into Dalhousie) plus a 140.230.0.0/16 and some 192.75.x /24s — roughly 197k addresses, and a 2001:410:: IPv6 allocation from CANARIE's space.

• Canadian universities reach the internet through CANARIE and their provincial regional network, so a campus AS of this size shows only a handful of BGP neighbours: the research network carries most of the traffic and commercial transit is a backstop.
