AMH is Access Media Holdings, the network behind Access Media 3 (AM3) — an

internet, TV and phone provider for multi-dwelling units: condominiums,

apartment complexes, student housing and retirement communities. It is based in

Oak Brook, Illinois.

What it's used for

• Bulk residential internet delivered building-by-building rather than street-by-street. The AS's ARIN reassignments read like a property list: individual /22s and /24s named after the buildings they serve, such as MIZNER-GRAND-01 and ONE-LINCOLN-PARK.
• Its own space (24.219.0.0/16, 66.199.64.0/18) is carved up into ~48 small announcements, one or a few per property.

Notable

• An IP here is a resident of a specific apartment or condo building. AM3 serves properties in Illinois, Florida, Georgia, Minnesota, Tennessee, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia and Washington DC, so the AS is residential but not geographically coherent — adjacent /24s can be in different states.
• There is essentially no reverse DNS on the announced space, so the ARIN reassignment netnames are the only per-prefix signal of where an address is.

Interesting

• The MDU model is why this AS is so fragmented: each building gets its own small block and its own announcement, rather than the large contiguous pools a street-level cable operator would use.
