data-centre operator jointly owned by a group of Montana rural telephone

cooperatives.

What it's used for

• Wholesale transit and backbone for its member telcos. The announced space is full of reallocations to those owners: NEMONT-REALLOCATION, TRIANGLE-REALLOCATION, and blocks whose rDNS lands on 3rivers.net and nemont.vision.net.
• Enterprise WAN, managed network services and colocation/data-centre capacity for Montana businesses, schools, hospitals and government offices.

Notable

• Because it is a carrier-of-carriers, the addresses under AS8057 are a mix: some are Vision Net's own infrastructure (ns1.vision.net), but much of it is end-user space belonging to the member cooperatives that ride on top of it. Attributing a specific IP to "Vision Net" as an operator is often wrong — the operator is usually the downstream co-op.
• The geography, however, is reliable: almost everything here is Montana.

• Vision Net exists because no single rural Montana telco is large enough to buy transit and build statewide fibre on its own — so eight of them built and own a shared carrier instead. The -REALLOCATION netnames are that ownership structure showing up directly in the address registry.
