Colombia's majority state-owned oil and gas company. It is a corporate network,

not a service provider.

What it's used for

• Ecopetrol's own corporate and industrial IT: the company's internet edge and the systems its División de Informática runs behind it.

Notable

• Very small and very closed: three announced prefixes out of 200.4.16.0/20 (~4k addresses), a single observed BGP neighbour, and no reverse DNS published on any of it. An enterprise edge with one transit provider looks exactly like this.
• The address block is registered in LACNIC directly to Ecopetrol, División de Informática, in Colombia. Addresses here belong to the company itself — offices, refineries, corporate systems — and are neither hosting nor subscriber space.
• The ASN dates from 1996 (originally an ARIN-era registration, later administered by LACNIC when the region got its own registry). Large national industrial firms took AS numbers early, well before most companies did.

Interesting

• Ecopetrol is a state-controlled company rather than a government department, so this reads as enterprise, not government — a distinction worth keeping when a national oil company appears in routing data.
