AS7820 TOWERFCU-AS

TOWERFCU-AS is Tower Federal Credit Union, a Maryland credit union headquartered in Laurel. AS7820 is its corporate network, not a service-provider network.

What it's used for

• Multihomed connectivity for the credit union's own systems: online and mobile banking front ends, branch connectivity and corporate IT.
• The footprint is tiny and entirely self-contained: two adjacent /24s, 204.225.146.0/24 and 204.225.147.0/24. There is no customer address space and no subscriber-style reverse DNS.

Notable

• This is enterprise address space belonging to a financial institution. A connection from it is a Tower FCU system or an employee behind the corporate network, never a consumer broadband customer.
• A financial institution running its own AS is usually doing it for redundancy and BGP control over its public-facing banking services rather than for any transit role. AS7820 has no downstream networks.

Interesting

• Tower Federal Credit Union was founded in 1953 by seven National Security Agency employees and grew alongside the agency after both moved to Fort Meade; it later separated its identity from its NSA sponsor and today serves a far broader membership. The AS is an ordinary corporate network, with no connection to the agency's own address space.
