research and development organisation based in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.

What it's used for

• The organisation's own network. It announces a single /24, whose visible reverse DNS is CTC's own hosts on ctc.com — internal service names, not customer or subscriber space.

Notable

• Despite the defence-heavy client base, this is not a government AS. CTC is a private non-profit corporation that contracts with government agencies; the address space belongs to the corporation, and labelling it government would attribute a contractor's network to its customers.
• The generic handle CTC is easy to mis-expand — several unrelated networks use the same three letters. The ARIN registrant and the ctc.com rDNS are what pin it to Concurrent Technologies.

Interesting

• CTC began in 1987 as a subsidiary of the University of Pittsburgh Trust and became fully independent in 1994; its ARIN organisation record dates from 1991, older than the AS number itself, which was registered in January 1997.
