AS7690 MIRAI Mirai Communication Network Inc.

MIRAI is Mirai Communication Network Inc. (株式会社ミライコミュニケーションネットワーク), a regional internet and cable-television operator based in Ogaki, Gifu Prefecture. AS7690 carries its subscriber network and its hosting business.

What it's used for

• Consumer broadband. The bulk of the space is subscriber addressing, and the reverse DNS says so plainly: pNNNNNN.mirai.ne.jp for Mirai's own ISP customers and pNNNNNN.ip.amixcom.jp for subscribers of amixcom, the FTTH cable-television operator in Ena, Gifu that Mirai co-founded with the city.
• Hosting and colocation. A separate block resolves as sNNNNNN.dc.mirai.ad.jp — a datacentre server range, matching the company's rental-server, server-housing and dedicated-line business.
• A further block carries names under conagi.jp, another regional cable brand in the group's footprint.

Notable

• This is eyeball address space for a specific corner of Japan, not a national carrier's pool. Traffic from the mirai.ne.jp and amixcom.jp ranges is a home or small-business connection somewhere in western Gifu.
• The hosting block is the exception and should not be read as consumer space: dc.mirai.ad.jp names are servers.
• Mirai holds two ASNs' worth of naming conventions in one AS. The p prefix marks a subscriber address, the s prefix marks a server; that single letter is the most reliable discriminator on this network.

Interesting

• amixcom exists because Ena City wanted fibre. It was set up as a third-sector joint venture between the municipality and Mirai, and it runs television, internet and IP telephony over the same FTTH plant. The subscriber addresses for a Japanese city's municipal cable project therefore sit inside a commercial ISP's autonomous system.
