OTNPL-AS-AP is OntheNet, a Queensland internet service provider established in 1995 and based on the Gold Coast. It is one of the state's longest-running independent ISPs and now sits under the Vonex group.

What it's used for

• A small, self-held IPv4 footprint: four /24s, about 1,000 addresses, each registered OTNPL-AU to the company. It announces no IPv6 from this AS.
• The company sells fibre, NBN and voice services, with its customer base weighted towards business, local government, education and corporate accounts rather than mass-market consumers.
• The reverse DNS that exists on the range is server-style, under the company's own onthe.net.au domain. There are no dynamic subscriber pools visible here.

Notable

• Do not read this as consumer broadband space. OntheNet does sell residential NBN, but its subscribers ride NBN Co's wholesale addressing; the addresses in AS7647 are the provider's own hosting, infrastructure and business assignments.
• A thousand addresses is a very small inventory for an ISP of this age. The AS is the legacy provider-independent block, not the whole business.

Interesting

• The APNIC record still lists a Carlton, Melbourne address, while the company has operated from the Gold Coast for years. Registry contact addresses go stale long before the routing does, which is a good reminder not to geolocate a network from its whois address.
