AS7643 VNPT-AS-VN Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications VNPT

VNPT-AS-VN is Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group, Vietnam's state-owned incumbent telecoms operator, headquartered in Hanoi. AS7643 is VNPT's original, low-numbered AS. It is not the company's consumer network.

What it's used for

• Static, assigned customer space. Reverse DNS across the inventory is dominated by static.vnpt.vn, VNPT's naming for fixed assignments handed to organisations, with the rest landing on the customers themselves: corporate mail servers, government-agency hosts such as an immigration-department MTA, and even other Vietnamese ISPs numbered out of VNPT space.
• Roughly 20,000 IPv4 addresses across about 80 prefixes, mostly in 203.162.0.0/16 and 123.30.0.0/16. It announces no IPv6.

Notable

• This is the kind trap on VNPT. The name says national incumbent, and the instinct is to file it as a consumer eyeball network. It is not. VNPT's home-broadband and mobile subscribers are carried on [AS45899](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS45899), which holds over sixteen million addresses; AS7643 sits alongside it with two peers and two upstreams and carries leased, static business and government assignments.
• Because the addresses are delegated to end organisations, an address here should be read as a Vietnamese company or public body, not as a household and not as VNPT itself.

Interesting

• Both ASNs answer to the name VNPT-AS-VN and AS7643's registry objects are maintained by AS45899's maintainer. The two are easy to conflate, and any classifier that treats the low number as the flagship network gets both the kind and the scale wrong.
