AS7625 DAUM-AS Kakao Corp

DAUM-AS is registered to Kakao Corp, the South Korean internet giant behind KakaoTalk. The handle is inherited from Daum Communications, the pioneering Korean web portal that Kakao merged with in 2014.

What it's used for

• Kakao's own service infrastructure, not third-party hosting. Reverse DNS in the space resolves to production service hosts such as dmail-prod-ay-sm1-worker08.mail.kakao.com — a Daum Mail worker node, in Kakao's DNS.
• The ASN announces around 38 prefixes, concentrated in 211.249.216.0/21, 121.53.80.0/21 and 220.64.108.0/22, plus a single IPv6 2404:4600:9::/48.

Notable

• This is datacentre and platform address space serving a consumer product, which is a different thing from a consumer access network. Traffic to it is Korean users; traffic from it is servers.
• The DAUM-AS handle long outlived the company it names. Daum stopped being an independent operator in 2014; it survives only as a Kakao product brand.

Interesting

• The handle may soon be doubly stale. Kakao split Daum out into a separate subsidiary in December 2025 and agreed to hand it to the AI company Upstage in January 2026. The portal that gave this ASN its name will then no longer be Kakao's at all, while the AS record continues to say DAUM-AS and Kakao Corp.
