EscapeNet (ESCAPE-NET-AS, esc.net.au), a South Australian internet provider

based in Adelaide that has been building networks since the mid-1990s and holds

an Australian carrier licence. Its APNIC record lists a street address rather

than a company name, which is a registry quirk, not a different holder.

What it's used for

• Retail internet access — NBN and legacy ADSL broadband, plus business fibre, colocation and voice — sold to residential, business and government customers nationally.
• The reverse DNS is textbook access-network naming: subscriber links as lnkNNN.adl.adsl.esc.net.au, broadband aggregation servers as lns0-loop1.adelaide.esc.net.au, generic customer pools of the form A-B-C-D.ip.esc.net.au, and core routers named for Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.

• An IP here is most likely an end-user broadband connection. The subscriber pools and the ADSL/LNS naming are the strongest evidence on the AS, so treat it as an eyeball network rather than hosting — even though EscapeNet also sells colocation and some of the space serves business customers.
• The inventory spans about thirty prefixes, all APNIC Australian space carrying EscapeNet's own reverse DNS, so this is a real operator's network, not assembled third-party address space.

• EscapeNet is the service provider behind GigCity Adelaide, a South Australian government-backed 10 Gbps network for business and innovation precincts, so a slice of this space sits behind unusually fast tails for a provider its size.
