• Delivering Hitachi Systems' SHIELD managed-security services — the monitoring, DNS and service hosts sit here (rDNS resolves under shield.ne.jp, e.g. dns-i03.shield.ne.jp).
• Publishing the SHIELD Security Research Center's advisories and research.

Notable

• Small and purpose-built: roughly 2,000 IPv4 addresses in a handful of /24s, all registered to Hitachi Systems under the SHIELD netname. There are no subscriber pools and very little rDNS — a service network, not an ISP or a public cloud.
• The name is honest here, which is worth saying because it usually isn't: SHIELD really is a security service, not a coincidental brand reused for something else.
• Part of the space (103.130.232.0/22) sits inside a block registered to a third party, with the individual /24s sub-registered to Hitachi Systems under the same SHIELD netname — normal sub-allocation, not brokered address space.
