AS7489 HOSTUS-GLOBAL-AS HostUS

HOSTUS-GLOBAL-AS is the network of HostUS, a budget VPS and dedicated-server

provider selling OpenVZ and KVM virtual machines out of roughly ten data centres

across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.

What it's used for

• Virtual private servers, shared cPanel hosting and dedicated servers. HostUS runs its own network rather than reselling, and this is one of two ASNs it uses.
• The address space is customer-facing hosting: reverse DNS across the range is a scatter of customer-chosen hostnames, the signature of VPS assignments rather than of an operator's own infrastructure.

Notable

• Announces around 76 IPv4 prefixes (about 20,000 addresses) and a substantially larger IPv6 footprint — a deliberately dispersed, many-/24 shape that suits a provider advertising presence in many cities at once.
• The registered organisation address is 8 The Green in Dover, Delaware — a shared registered-agent mail drop, not a facility. Treat it as a legal address, not a location clue.

Interesting

• The AS number was reissued: the APNIC registration dates to 2015, so despite sitting in the 7000s, this network has no early-internet pedigree. Low AS numbers freed up by defunct holders get recycled, and a cheap-VPS provider is exactly the sort of network that ends up with one.
