AS7480 STEVEYI-NETWORK

STEVEYI-NETWORK is a small independent network run by an individual, Tsung-Yi Yu, registered through the RIPE NCC as a sponsored end-user assignment. Despite the low AS number, RIPE created this object in March 2022: the number was reclaimed from an earlier holder and reissued.

What it's used for

• The AS publishes a full BGP community policy for transit customers and peers, and lists presence at small community internet exchanges alongside transit from Hurricane Electric and two smaller carriers.
• Its registry remarks map points of presence across Taipei, Hong Kong, Tokyo, Singapore, Fremont, Kansas and Pittsburgh.

Notable

• It currently announces no prefixes at all, IPv4 or IPv6. The routing policy exists on paper; nothing is in the global table behind it.
• That gap between a carefully documented policy and an empty routing table is characteristic of hobbyist and experimental networks, which are a real and growing category among modern small-AS holders.

Interesting

• The low number is the only trace of the early internet here. It is a good reminder that an AS in the low thousands says nothing about a network's age until you check the registry date.
