AS7459 GRANDECOM-AS1

GRANDECOM-AS1 is Grande Communications Networks, the San Marcos, Texas cable and fibre operator that now trades as Astound Broadband powered by Grande. It serves internet, TV and phone across Texas markets including Austin, San Antonio, Dallas and Corpus Christi.

What it's used for

• Residential and small-business broadband. This is the eyeball AS: reverse DNS on its space is dominated by subscriber pools such as …dyn.grandenetworks.net and …static.grandenetworks.net.
• It also carries business-access space inherited through the Astound group, with hostnames still bearing older brands like megapath.net and globalcapacity.com.

Notable

• The routed footprint is large for a regional operator: roughly 1,700 prefixes and about 1.2 million IPv4 addresses, almost all of it end-user access rather than servers.
• Grande was folded into the Astound Broadband group (alongside RCN, Wave and enTouch) and rebranded, but the original 1996 ARIN ASN and its grandenetworks.net naming survive in the routing table.

Interesting

• Because the AS spans several acquired networks, a single reverse-DNS sweep of AS7459 turns up four different legacy provider domains. The routing table remembers corporate history long after the marketing does.
