AS7321 LNET-ASN

LNET-ASN is LocalNet Corporation, a consumer internet provider based in Williamsville, New York, just outside Buffalo. It is one of the last national dial-up ISPs still selling service, alongside DSL and resold cable access.

What it's used for

• Residential subscriber access. Reverse DNS across its ranges is uniformly host-N.OCTETS.localnet.com, with a static-host- variant for fixed assignments — a textbook eyeball ISP addressing pattern.
• Roughly 158,000 IPv4 addresses across two dozen prefixes, including sizeable blocks such as 209.81.192.0/18 and 66.211.192.0/18-era space, sized for a dial-up and broadband customer base rather than servers.

Notable

• This is a residential eyeball network. LocalNet grew by buying up other providers' dial-up customer bases as the market consolidated; reverse DNS on some of its space still resolves to voyager.net names, a fossil of one of those acquisitions.
• Registered with ARIN in November 1996, and still held by the original company.

Interesting

• Dial-up ISPs are usually a historical footnote, but LocalNet kept the business alive by consolidating what everyone else abandoned — which is why a mid-1990s AS number and a mid-1990s product line are both still in service here.
