AS7150 CUPANET-BLM-AS

CUPANET-BLM-AS is the network of Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania, the

public university formed by the integration of the Bloomsburg, Lock Haven and

Mansfield campuses within Pennsylvania's state system.

What it's used for

• Campus networking across the university's sites: teaching, residential halls, labs, libraries and administration.
• Announces roughly 200,000 IPv4 addresses, dominated by three legacy /16s — 148.137.0.0/16, 151.161.0.0/16 and 157.62.0.0/16.

Notable

• ARIN's netnames still record the pre-merger identities: CUPANET-BLM (Bloomsburg), CUPANET-LCK (Lock Haven) and CUPANET-MNS (Mansfield). The three blocks were registered separately in 1991 and 1992 and now sit under one organisation record.
• Three full /16s for one regional university is a striking amount of address space by modern standards, and a direct artefact of when the campuses first connected — each got a Class B in an era when they were handed out on request.

Interesting

• The AS is the rare case where a merger is legible in the routing data: one autonomous system now originates what were three institutions' independent address blocks.
