transport network built with and for Ohio's independent local telephone

companies; the retail broadband riding on it is branded Bright.net.

What it's used for

• Consumer broadband access across rural and small-town Ohio (and nearby Michigan and Indiana), delivered through the member independent telcos.
• Fiber backhaul and Ethernet transport between those independent providers.
• Announces roughly nine prefixes including several /18s and /19s, plus 2607:fa10::/32 for IPv6.

Notable

• Reverse DNS settles the question of what the space is: names like ridg-ftth-…ftth.bright.net, celina-pppoe-…dsl.bright.net and stm-osi-dhcp-…brightohio.net are textbook subscriber pools (fibre-to-the-home, PPPoE DSL and DHCP), with per-town prefixes on the hostnames.
• Despite the wholesale-sounding "fiber network" name, the address space is predominantly eyeball space: households on FTTH and DSL.
• The ARIN organisation handle is still BNET-Z, a legacy artifact of the Bright.net registration.

• This is a co-operative shape that is common in the rural US: a group of small independent telephone companies pool one fiber network and one AS rather than each running their own transit and routing.
