AS6503 is the main network of Axtel, a Mexican fixed-line telecommunications and IT services operator. It is an ARIN-era number now administered under LACNIC.

What it's used for

• Nationwide fixed connectivity across Mexico. The AS originates roughly 650 IPv4 prefixes totalling about 1.4 million addresses, drawn from Mexican LACNIC ranges.
• Reverse DNS is consistently under static.axtel.net and is annotated with city codes such as mtyxl (Monterrey), gdljal (Guadalajara) and qroqro (Querétaro), alongside markers like infraestructura, reservada and wimax-cpe.

Notable

• Axtel today positions itself around the enterprise and government segments, combining its fibre backbone with data-centre and managed-IT services, having de-emphasised traditional mass-market consumer fixed-line operations. The rDNS backs this up: the space reads as static customer assignments and infrastructure rather than large dynamic residential pools.
• Residual fixed-wireless CPE naming (wimax-cpe-…) still appears in the address space, a fossil of Axtel's earlier access technology.

Interesting

• Because Axtel's self-description (B2B/IT provider) and its inventory (a large national access network) pull in different directions, this AS is easy to mislabel as a consumer ISP. The static-assignment naming is the honest signal.
