PIXNET-AS — Providers Internet Exchange, an ARIN registration from April 1996

listing a post-office box in Glenside, Pennsylvania. It is a survivor of the

mid-1990s Philadelphia-area internet scene rather than an active, identifiable

service today.

What it's used for

• Hard to say honestly. It announces four small legacy /24s from 198.186.190.0 onward, a block whose ARIN record is registered to Prescient Software, Inc. — a different name again — and none of it carries public reverse DNS.
• Its routing today comes from a single upstream, a Usenet service provider, so the address space is reachable but gives away nothing about its use.

Notable

• Despite the name, there is no evidence this operates as an internet exchange point in the modern sense. "Internet exchange" was used loosely in the 1990s for provider co-operatives and interconnect projects.
• The technical contacts on the original records are recognisable figures from the 1990s Philadelphia ISP world, which fits the era but does not tell you who runs the network now.
• Because the operator's current activity cannot be established from registry, routing, or DNS evidence, this network is deliberately left unclassified rather than forced into a category.
