AS6406 CEBAF

CEBAF is the network of the Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility ("Jefferson Lab") in Newport News, Virginia — a US Department of Energy national laboratory. The handle is the lab's original name: the Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility, the machine at its heart.

The registry handle has outlived the name. The facility was renamed for Thomas Jefferson in 1996, but CEBAF — the accelerator's acronym — is still what the routing registry calls it, a small piece of 1990s DOE naming preserved in the ARIN database.
