CENTURYLINK-MTIPS2-CHI is the second of CenturyLink's (now Lumen's)

MTIPS autonomous systems — Managed Trusted Internet Protocol Service, the

GSA-contract gateway through which US federal agencies reach the public internet

in compliance with the Trusted Internet Connection (TIC) initiative. The CHI

suffix marks the Chicago portal; its companion is

[AS6223](https://asn.ipinfo.app/AS6223).

What it's used for

• Providing a monitored, TIC-compliant internet gateway for federal civilian agency traffic, sold under the GSA Networx and EIS contracts.
• Announces just a single /24 — 256 IPv4 addresses.

Notable

• The operator is a commercial carrier but the purpose is governmental: this space exists to front federal agency connections, not to serve CenturyLink customers in the ordinary sense.
• A /24 behind its own AS number is a deliberate, security-driven design — a small, clearly delimited perimeter is the point of a TIC access portal.

Interesting

• MTIPS gateways are geographically paired for resilience, which is why CenturyLink registered two adjacent AS numbers for the service rather than running both sites in one routing domain.
