AS6057 Administracion Nacional de Telecomunicaciones

AS6057 is the main network of ANTEL, the Administración Nacional de

Telecomunicaciones — Uruguay's state-owned telecommunications company and the

country's dominant fixed-line and internet provider.

What it's used for

• Consumer and business internet access across Uruguay: fixed broadband (DSL and fibre) and mobile data, plus ANTEL's own corporate and service infrastructure.
• This is the country's principal eyeball network, so an address here is most likely a home or mobile subscriber rather than a server.

Notable

• With roughly 2.1 million IPv4 addresses across some 600 prefixes, it is by a wide margin the largest network in Uruguay — first in the country for originated IPv4 and IPv6 space and for estimated eyeball share.
• ANTEL holds a legal monopoly on fixed-line telephony and fixed data service in Uruguay, an unusual position in Latin America. Mobile is the one competitive segment, and ANTEL is the leading operator there too rather than the only one.

• The low AS number and the LACNIC registration sit slightly at odds: the number was issued in the mid-1990s, before LACNIC existed, and the registration later moved to the regional registry when Latin American resources were transferred out of ARIN.
