KFU is the network of Kazan Federal University in Tatarstan, one of Russia's

oldest universities and now one of its designated federal universities.

What it's used for

• Campus networking for faculties, libraries, dormitories and administration.
• Research and teaching systems, plus connectivity to the Russian academic networks that link the country's universities.

Notable

• The allocation is small by university standards (a couple of thousand IPv4 addresses), so much of the campus almost certainly sits behind NAT.
• The AS number dates from the era when Russian universities were among the first institutions in the country online.

Interesting

• Kazan's university networking predates the commercial Russian internet; like many Soviet-era academic centres, its computing centre became the regional on-ramp to the network.
