FIDN is Fidelity Communications, a cable and broadband operator

headquartered in Sullivan, Missouri, serving small towns and rural areas across

Missouri and neighbouring states. Its reverse DNS still runs under fidnet.com,

the name it has used for decades.

What it's used for

• Residential and small-business broadband. The AS originates 409 IPv4 prefixes, about 188,000 addresses, and the reverse DNS across them is uniformly subscriber-style: 170-10-0-5.fidnet.com, ip-69-10-96-5.midstate.ip.cablemo.net. Sequential IP-derived hostnames on cable and DSL pools is what an eyeball access network looks like from the outside.
• No IPv6 is announced from this AS.

Notable

• The prefix registrants read like three different companies — Fidelity Cablevision, Cobridge Communications and CableAmerica — but they are one operator's acquisition history, not unrelated third parties. Fidelity bought CoBridge's cable systems in 2012 and later CableAmerica's Missouri footprint, and never re-registered the space. The cablemo.net reverse DNS on the CableAmerica blocks is the same story showing through the PTRs.
• Only eight observed neighbours against 188,000 addresses. That is the eyeball signature: many addresses handed to subscribers, very little peering, because the business is selling access rather than transit.

Interesting

• The fragmentation into 409 prefixes is a symptom of growth by acquisition — a patchwork of small cable-system blocks stitched into one AS rather than a handful of clean aggregates.
• Cable One acquired Fidelity Communications in 2019; the ASN and its registry records still carry the Fidelity name.
