AS11808 UIDAHO

UIDAHO is the University of Idaho, the state's land-grant university, headquartered in

Moscow, Idaho. The AS carries the campus network: every announced prefix is ARIN-registered

to the university itself, so there is no ambiguity about who holds it or what it serves.

What it's used for

• Campus connectivity for students, staff, research and administration — the standard university mix of wired and wireless client networks, departmental servers and central IT.
• RIS sees 13 IPv4 prefixes / 32,768 addresses and only 2 observed neighbours. That ratio is the classic institutional shape: a very large block of address space reached through a couple of upstreams (for a US public university, typically a commodity provider plus a regional research-and-education network). A commercial network holding 32k addresses would peer with far more than two ASes.

Notable

• The address count is accounted for almost entirely by a single aggregate, 129.101.128.0/17 — the upper half of the university's 129.101.0.0/16. Everything else in the list (129.101.136.0/22, 129.101.212.0/24, 129.101.234.0/24, 129.101.252.0/22 and the rest) is a more-specific carved out of that same /17, announced for internal traffic-engineering reasons rather than being additional space.
• No IPv6 is announced at all, which is increasingly unusual for a research university of this size.
• The registrant list is uniformly UIDAHO / University of Idaho. Nothing third-party appears anywhere in the inventory.

Interesting

• The low AS number is genuine here rather than a reissue artefact: ARIN records the ASN as registered in December 1998, to the university's Office of Information Technology in Moscow, and it has been held by the same institution since.
