UNIVOIP belongs to UniVoIP Inc., an El Segundo, California provider of hosted PBX,

cloud voice and UCaaS (including Microsoft Teams voice) for mid-market and enterprise

customers. The AS carries UniVoIP's own service platform.

What it's used for

• Running a cloud telephony platform. RIS sees 8 IPv4 prefixes / 2,048 addresses and 2 observed neighbours. Every prefix is a deaggregate of a single 162.253.72.0/22: the /22 itself plus a /23 and six /24s carved out of it. Announcing your own /22 in pieces is a traffic-engineering habit — steering individual voice subnets across two upstreams — and it is why the prefix count (8) badly overstates the network's actual size.
• The sampled PTR, 162.253.77.5 -> po1.lax-i-agg-01.univoip.net, names a port-channel on a Los Angeles aggregation router. Infrastructure hostnames of that form mean carrier plant, not subscriber pools and not general hosting.

Notable

• All eight prefixes register to org UniVoIP Inc. There is no third-party registrant anywhere in the inventory, so the leased-address pattern does not apply here.
• Two upstreams for a real-time voice platform is the minimum a serious VoIP operator would run; redundancy matters more than capacity when the payload is calls.
• No IPv6 is announced, which is common among hosted-voice providers whose SIP and RTP paths were built IPv4-only and are difficult to dual-stack without touching every endpoint.

• Despite the vpn-adjacent world of tunnelled voice, nothing in the evidence suggests consumer VPN or proxy use. This is carrier voice infrastructure for business customers.
